I'm really not going for tacticool, so I figured I'd ask if anyone has experience.

My coyote rifle is sporting a 4-16 scope which is great for reaching out, but up close it's not very good. I was watching a three gun event on tv (which was awesome) and I noticed they were using offset dots for close targets. Has anyone used this set up? Is it practical or just a fad?

I had a cheapie RMR style on a 45 degree mount for awhile. It worked well, but ended up being too much junk hanging off the rifle for my tastes. There are scope rings, from Burris and others that have a short picarinny rail on the top ring cap, but then that puts the dot way up high making you deal with lack of cheek weld and height over bore issues.

I know now guys who have had the same issue as you, and when presented with an up close target, they turned the rifle on a 45 and sighted in the V notch between the windage and elevation caps.
