A co-worker asked me about AR rifles chambered in 7.62x39.

According to him, he has a ton of the surplus steel-cased ammo and doesn't want an AK-pattern rifle for whatever reason.

He ran across the R Guns rifle the other day and his curiosity was piqued. https://rguns.net/shop/category/firearms-7-62x39mm/

CMMG's cheapest complete rifle is about $600 more than the R Guns one as far as MSRPs go.

I told him that I know next to nothing about them - other than many may have feeding issues.

So: Let the knowledge dump commence!

I you are getting a 7.62x39 AR, buy a lower that takes AK47 magazines. That's 90% of your battle right there. They break bolt lugs more often because they are thinned out so much, but other than that they are good. And cheaper than most AKs now interestingly enough. Palmetto makes lowers MGI makes lowers and so do a couple of others. Then there is also the cmmg mutant. Which is it's own thing.

IMO if you really want a AR style rifle that shoots 7.62x39....... mutant all the way. It solves the 2 major AR15 sized issues: mags and bolt.

otherwise sell me the ammo and you can drop it off ;)
