![]() ![]() ![]() | Extreme 10/22 Project This all started because I bought a Gemtech Outback II Silencer and a P22 pistol. I decided that I needed a rifle platform to use the suppressor with and got started with the Ruger 10/22. I bought a new rifle, stripped it down to the receiver and put the original barrel and stock back in the box. I sent the trigger assembly out to be reworked and to add a Tactical Solutions Extended Mag Release. Bought a Yukon Extreme in Black/Gray. I was not happy with the shine on the stock so I sanded it down and have been putting on coats of Tru-Oil. The stock now has that wet and shiny look to it. Ordered a Rimfire Technologies Quantum Barrel; Black on Black with threaded end for suppressor in 17". Mueller APV scope on the way. Should have this all back together by Thanksgiving and will post up range results then. How many more of you build these 10/22 rifles? It has really been addictive and a lot of fun. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | How much do you think you'll have in it? I am interested in a silenced 10/22 as well. Probably my most favorite to shoot of my whole collection. You can buy one with an integral silencer for around 900.00. Maybe cheaper to buy??? Still a fun project I bet.. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I am building the rifle so that it can use a suppressor but not specifically for that purpose. I just didn't want to thread barrels on two rifles I have. Henry Golden Boy lever action, hex barrel just wouldn't be right. Colt 22 semi-auto, tube fed, looks like a saddle carbine, again would not be right. I did not want a integral silencer because I want to use it on a few pistols also. I am probably pushing that $900 mark now but that includes the gunsmithing on the trigger works and the Mueller APV Scope. The big ticket item on this build is the R/T Quantum Barrel. That alone is $260 plus shipping. I think that since I am paying the tax money to get the silencer, I need to be able to have as many hosts as I care to play with. Threading the barrels is not regulated, the serial number on the silencer is what you must register and fill out the forms to own. |

![]() ![]() | I have three 10/22 rifles and a Charger. None are silenced but one has a GM barrel and trigger work with a Bushnell 10X x 40 Mildot. I should have a new stock off a Ruger 10/22T on it by the weekend. It is a tack driver @ 25 and 50 yds. in the old stock. ![]()

| Check your 6 ![]() | I love the original walnut stock that came on the older "walmart only models". I think my 10/22 will always be in that stock. I finally ordered my VQ target hammer and spring set, so my build will look something like ruger 10/22 stainless walnut stock stainless barrel (walmart model) Mueller APV vq bolt release vq target hammer bolt buffer (forgot brand) extended mag release (generic) a little polishing on the trigger group to smooth it up

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm recovering I am a recovering 10/22 addict. I've built 10 of them and I can tell you there is no place better to get info on the 10/22 than rimfire central. Two things I would recommend right up front are a recoil buffer (replaces the steel bolt stop pin) and a modified bolt release. The "auto bolt release" locks the bolt open just like from the factory but will release the bolt when you pull back on the charging handle. It's a simple mod and can be easily done with a Dremel or a half-round jeweler's file. I've also replaced all my charging handles with the magnum handle. They were available from Brownells but the supply may be going away since the magnum went out of production several years ago. The 10/22 can be made to shoot surprisingly well but it can take $$. It's like the old racer's motto, "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?" ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() | I got my trigger back from Swampfox on RimfireCentral.com yesterday in the mail. It is really nice. Smooth with no extra movement or slack. Light trigger pull but not a hair trigger. DRob, I can't believe you are cured of the rifle disease. And yes you are right about how accurate do you want to be is determined by how much you want to spend. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Cured? Nah! Quote:
I wouldn't say I'm cured. The affiction I had is known as 10/22itis. It's sorta' in remission. For a while there I was ordering parts before I had guns to put them on/in. I got caught up on that and found myself with 2 factory 10/22s and no parts. They were showing up on sale for around $130 - $150 and I was buying them regularly. Then I had to buy more parts, of course. At one point I had 10, including 4 different calibers. Sold a magnum and gave another custom to my grandson for Christmas about 3 years ago. Right now, I have 10/22s in .17 HMR, .17 HM2, .22 WMR, and .22lr for a total of 8. None of them has a factory barrel. One has a 1/9 barrel dedicated to the 60 gr Aguila SSS ammo, one has a VQ carbon fiber barrel in HM2, another has a TacSol. The HMR has a Clark Custom barrel (tack driver) and the rest are Green Mtn. Three of them are still in factory stocks, one a WW Special, the other two are T model stocks. Everything else is aftermarket stocks and four have been painted by the famous Tuck. Incredible painter! (See my ad in the classifieds) So, you can see I like to talk about them. Call it therapy. ![]() ![]() Oops. I forgot the Charger which currently awaits the delivery of a HM2 barrel. 10/22itis - An affliction which causes a person to buy a plain $150 rifle then spend $750 more on it to make it worth $500..........maybe!
