i have a question for all you AR owners
is a flash hider a worth while upgrade?
would you prefer a flash hider or a mussel break?

also does either one effect accuracy (not rapid fire accuracy, just does it effect the physics involved in making a bullet fly straighter)

btw: iv been looking into the troy medieval for this purpose
but if its not a huge issue, than i might just stick with the A2 style that my upper is coming with

A flash hider will reduce the "flash" that comes out of the barrel when shooting.

A muzzle brake (aka compensator) redirects the outward gases, reducing recoil.

    Neither directly affect accuracy.

If you don't care, stick with the standard A2 flash hider-- it does a fine job on the cheap.

I'd stick with the stock one for now if I was you. IMO there is no reason to change it out unless you have the money sitting around and really want to get rid of it, or you are planning on using the new flash hider/muzzle break to mount a suppressor.

Ps if you have the money laying around and you really want to get rid of it you can send me a pm. :) My paypal is always accepting donations.

the guy who sold me the upper said he left the stock one loose so i could swap it out if i wanted to or just tighten it

Hunting scope? What are you going to hunt with 5.56? Or are you planning a .458 upper?

I'll be hunting deer in Arkansas with .223/5.56 (it's legal I checked)
I'v been doing some research and found a handful of loads that are great for deer
So I'll be hunting with the AR till I can get a .308 in the future

    Gotcha. :yesway:

I have experience with a Millett DMS-1 and Trijicon Accupoint-- I recommend them both (LaRue mount for either!) for medium-range shooting.

The millet seems more in my budget
But the shots I will be taking only get out to 300 yards
I'm considering just using iron sights (after I get some rounds down the pipe)

Hey guys I need some help

I just received my upper today
I through it on there after installing the charging handle and BCG that i had already
I didn't have much time to fiddle so I put it together
Racked it back and....I heard a rattling in my receiver
I opened it up and found that my buffer detent and spring came out
The spring has a little bend in it now
I put it all back together and the same exact thing happened

Why won't my buffer detent stay in place?

Sounds like the buffer tube needs another turn into the receiver.

    Well thanks
One I get home I'll have to see if that's the case
And if it is I'll need to go find myself one of those handy AR tools
Anyone over here near Brownsburg with one of this that can help me with my project?

    alrighty
    here are some pics
i talked with some folks and they said it looked like my buffer tube was to far in
while other say its not in enough
also you will see what happened with my buffer detent spring
anyone have an extra laying around i could have?
also here is the full story on the lower

i had it shipped into a local FFL (a guy who operates out of his house near me and only charged $15 and claims to be a gun smith)
well he proceeded to take off my buffer tube because the nut was backwards
he looses the rear pin detent and spring in the process and attempts to replace it
while also noticing that some of my threads on the buffer tube are jacked up a bit

anyways after ruining two off his own springs he finally gets the thing back on
now my buffer detent is not working and the my buffer tube is loose

can anyone with tools get together with me and help me straighten things out?
also i included a picture of my upper where the rail meets the receiver
does is look a little off center to anyone else?

You definately need a new spring, and the rail doesn't look off center by much, if at all. (Not sure with camera angel).

I am assuming you backed the buffer tube out to remove the spring and detent?? Based on pics, your tube is not in near far enough.

    nope
i just through in the BCG and charge handle
    racked it
then heard a rattling in my gun
opened it up and the buffer, spring, and detent parts fell out
