This looks like a really fun and useful weapon. Has anybody had one of these? I know the ammo is a bit more expensive than 223 (the rifle is also about 2X your standard AR-15) but the extra punch of the 6.8SPC turns some cover for 223 into mere camouflage and extends the functional reach of your carbine with the right optics and marksmanship capability. At 200 yards the 6.8SPC hits with 2X the energy of the 223. Plus, i think it looks really cool!

    SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!

But at $18 for 20rds of the cheap stuff at Walmart... Man that'd be pricy!

I wonder how reliable it'd be with the "long action" cycling that fast?

Of course, there have been semi-auto rifles chambered in 30.06 and 270 for eons now...

That's an "AR" rifle that I think that I could like...

thanks for the correction... according to the remington ballistics comparison, the 6.8 and 270 are nearly the same if using 115gr.
Perhaps at short range, but I thought the 6.8 lacked really good BC bullets that would still fit into an AR mag? i.e. Energy at a distance drops rapidly. This is where the 6.5 Grendel takes off.

And comparing 6.8SPC to a 115gr .270 is a bit misleading, too, since the average (and most widely available) .270 bullet weights tend to be 130+ gr.

    Comparing the 6.8SPC to a 130gr .270 tells a different story:

looking at the ballistics report, the 270 115gr and the same weight 6.8 look to have a similar energy and velocity at 500 yards, but not identical.

having said that, i have never fired either. i have a 30-06 and 223. no 270. no 6.8.

advantages of 6.8 to 5.56 (223) appear clear, lots more power. so do the disadvantages (6.8 is not as common, and is twice as expensive).

Maybe we can go this direction. i was hoping for stories of personal testimony to the accuracy and reliability of the weapon, either for or against. Heck, at this point i'd settle for rumours of testimony of personal experiences with the REC7.:)

i'm trying to make a decision. (lack of available ammo may make that decision for me.)
