Thoughts on the AR-10 .308

Not something I have seen on here a lot(did a search and couldn't find anything) and am thinking this may be a project I would be interested in. I am thinking of this project for a longer range more power platform. So what are your thoughts of the AR-10 .308 platform?

I love them. Many can hold MOA. The issue with the M1A platform is scope mounting. You don't have that problem there. It's like the m4, for big boys.

I heard Ted Nugent say on a radio show that if he could only have one rifle the AR10 would be it. Pretty high praise from someone that i am sure has shot a large variety of rifles.

absrio is on a distinguished road
I have the DPMS .308 and have shot a quick 5 shot group in a 1 inch square. With a 24" bull barrel its heavy but super accurate.

great fun long range gun... plenty of power... will run to 800 yards holding moa, after that you will see a huge drop in accuracy... if you want to push the .308 round AS FAR AS IT WILL GO.... get a bolt gun.... other than that, go for it, they are really fun guns.... i have an FNAR for sale in the classifieds... probably a few pages back, not a ar platform but a semi auto .308 and it is a SHOOTER

I have sold every single FNFAR that we have received in a few days of receiving them. Reports are very good, could even be one of the most accurate semi-autos out there. Plus, the price is reasonable.

chipdog4 will become famous soon enough
Have 2 Armalite AR10s. One in .308 and the other in .243 (which I haven't been able to shoot yet). Both 20".

As for Armalite parts, you can count on everything being twice as expensive as the AR15 counterparts. Mags are huge sticking point for the Armalite, they're very expensive and hard to find, but are slowly showing back up in the market.

I think I'd by a POF or DSA before I'd buy the AR 10. I've read that parts are harder to come by, and that they don't all swap out with the AR15s. That would be an issue with me. POF makes quite a bit of different assemblies that interest me. An 18" .308 mag fed, AR style monorailed POF with a fluted barrel just screams 'Ruler of Wars' to me.

308 is Great

I have a DPMS LR308. If I need to reach out and touch someone, that would be my weapon of choice. Rock solid, reliable and a real tack driver.
