Mossberg with a 18.5" barrel. You can buy one with a longer barrel for hunting etc. Then buy the shorter barrel for $80. Then you have the best of both worlds.

I did the same with my (above) 870 set up, I shoot birds (28" ribbed) deer 23 rifled and 18" (zombies). It came with some plain jane walnut stocks and I replaced (switch back and forth) with a set of ATI black synthetics. Less than $500 for 3 guns.

Many have been trained to NEVER use the safety on a shottie. Cruiser ready does it fine and the hand operating the slide is the safety.

As others have said, keep it light and simple.

I cringe when someone asks for the "best" in anything. I can't think of anything that won't work for the well trained and prepared.

Buy what you can afford, get plenty of ammo, and get some training so using it becomes automatic so you are not fumbling at 3 AM. JMHO

I just bought a standard 870. I may want to trap shoot with it too, and I can only afford one shotgun. I'd rather have one I can also use for hunting or trap, rather than one I can only use for tactical. I can defend my home with the standard 870 just as easily as with a tactical model.
