| wheelman for hire ![]() | your welcome. I'd take a pic of the box where it says that, but I need to get to bed, so maybe later, lol. I really need to get my Moss mav 88 to the range and see which slugs it likes best. I've got quite a mix. I'm really curious to see how the federal tru ball, and my winchester supremes shoot. Who knows, may even be worth putting a good sight on the maverick, lol |

None of those are "undersize" they are just made to their own manufacture's specs and shot gun barrels intended for shot shells are not one single dimension from one end to the other. You can use foster slugs, the old style cheap ones, in any choke barrel but they are GENERALLY most accurate out of an improved cylinder. That is what a smooth slug barrel with rifle sights on it from the factory will actually be, imp cyl, only it has sights on it. I've never seen those junk brennekes shoot worth crap out of ANYTHING. I'll never spend another nickle to even test them. | |

Testing slugs with just a bird bead is a waste of time. Just buy the cheapest slugs you find and use 'em. |

| wheelman for hire ![]() | Ehh I normally use my muzzleloader for the most part anyways. And I sadly just sold my slug gun my moss 500 20 ga that had a rifled ported barrel. I wish I never sold my old century ithaca copy 12 ga. It had the 19" full cyl bore and the recoil was alot lower than any shotgun I ever shot, including using 3" slugs. I had read the rumor about the remingtons somewhere. Can't remember where right now. I'll still stick to my choice on the winchesters and federals though. And I never thought I'd be making long shots with the Mav, it does have the 20" full cyl barrell though (Its the ext mag security model). I just want to be able to know where its gonna hit in case I have to use it as a backup. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If any of you get The Rifleman magazine from the NRA, there was a pretty good article on the latest and greatest slug technology in it...I borrowed the mag, don't know when it was written. Probably last fall... The issue the article was in had the Auto Ordinance M1-Carbine on the cover. But, what has been said: Rifled slugs = smoothbore. Sabot slugs = rifled slug barrel You'll get better accuracy out of a sabot slug + rifled slug barrel than you will with a rifled slug out of a smoothbore. Rifled slugs out of a smoothbore don't have any spin imparted upon them, thereby lessening downfield accuracy (as compared to sabot slug) Also, in general, your "effective" range with a rifled slug/smoothbore is ~40% or so less than with a sabot slug/rifled barrel. 60-70ish yards vs 100-125ish yards.
