They have a hollow back and the skirt is suppose to expand to fill the bore and center it in the barrel the full length of the barrel. They do not impart any spin to the slug. Saboted slugs in a rifled barrel. The rifled barrel is intended to be as straigh walled as possible and be rifled to grip the sides of the slug to impart spin. To better take advantage of this the saboted slugs are engineer to tighter grip in the barrel. Most have a squeeze fit with the plastic sabot to spin the slug and prevent tumbling. Lead sided foster type slugs in a rifled bore will lead up the rifling very rapidly. |

| wheelman for hire ![]() | Everything I've read says the rifled slugs are mostly for smoothbores. You can use them in a rifled barrell but it will lead up the rifling too quick, and you lose the advantages that you get by using the rifled barrell and sabots. Most will say that a rifled slug's furthest effective and accurate range will be no more than 100 yards. Whereas with a rifled barrell and sabots you can reach out to 200-250 yards with the right combo. Plus the rifled barrel and sabots are much more accurate than the rifled slugs and a smoothbore. |

I have read on the box of remington sluggers that they can be used with a choke and actually recommend an imp cyl choke for best accuracy. I've also heard from other people that the imp cyl choke works best with them. But I believe this is because they are undersize compared to others. And one reason I stick to winchester, federal, or brenneke. | |
