Good semi-auto long ranger

I have a Savage .308 win that I love. I would like to add to my collection with a good semi-auto that has great long range accuracy too. Maybe something in .223 or .308. I am not a rollin in $$$$ so nothing too expensive. Help me find my new rifle. Thanks!!

The Remington 7400 is a great semi-auto rifle, available in .308.

"Nothing too expensive"???? Only if you think something less than $2000 or so is not too expensive.

In 308, the AR10 or M1A. In 223, the AR15.

Also, what do you consider long range?

Only problem is a quality .308 (.223 is just plain hard!

The coolest one I got to fire was the FN FNAR in .308. Damn near a bolt action trigger, extremely accurate, and 20 round capacity. All you need is a decent telescopic! They run only 1400, but considering the quality of the arm, its a good investment. A decent AR10 or M1A/M14 is going to cost that or more.

Two other rifles (one unfortunately not .308 though) you may want to consider are the Saiga in .308 or the Romanian PSL in 7.62x54R. While not "tack drivers", they will get minute of human accuracy at 400 yards (or further with the PSL) with a decent telescopic and are inexpensive compared to the other more precise arms. Not superbly accurate however.

Price is going to dictate accuracy with semi autos, particularly in .308. The AR10 is probably the best choice as it tends to be less expensive of the super accurate rifles, as the aftermarket support is larger.

Have you considered 6.5 Grendel in the AR15 platform? It will outperform the 308 at 1000 yards, yet only has 1/2 the recoil of the 308 and uses a case short enough to fit into a standard AR15.
