Building an Appleseed Liberty Training Rifle (Ruger 10/22)

Has anyone else built up an Appleseed Liberty Training Rifle from a 10/22? I've often went out "plinking" but never worked too much to really increase my rifleman skill. This seems like a cheap way to do it.

I've ordered two sets of Tech Sights (I'm building one for myself and another for my fiancee) and noticed the basic model 20" barrel is for sale at Gander Mountain for $199.95. Any other better deals for a 10/22 in central Indiana?

I got one from Gander last year for the same price, pretty good deal, all things considered.

Just got my 10-22 back from CST having the bolt hold open mod done to the trigger group. I'm not the most gunsmithing savvy person in the world. Saw them at the NRA Annual Meetings in Louisville, for $50.00 I got the mod,( sent my trigger group to them, they installed it) and they modded my factory magazine.

Waiting on a sling from El Paso, have a set of tech sights to install then time to get busy.

I moved my receiver to a Hogue overmolded stock, with sling swivels, it's a sweet gun.

I've done 2 now, a standard quick and dirty LTR and another one with a Fajen thumbhole stock and scope. They turn a decent trainer into a great one! Add the Tech Sights, bolt hold open, extended mag release and sling swivels and you're good to go. Takes maybe 30 minutes to do all of the above.

What is the significance of the bolt hold open?

After the last round is fired from the magazine, the bolt is held back. Making the operation more like that of an AR/M-1 type rifle. hawkhavn

Got some packages in the mail today and put Tech Sights on both the 10/22s I picked up at Gander Mountain. Not too tough, but needed to take a triangle file to the front sight, just a bit. The milling left a slight ridge on the bottom that caused too tight of a fit. The aluminum filed pretty quickly.

I really like the look of this model, 10/22RR. 20" barrel without a band at the front of the stock. Looks really nice. It is amazing how these sights transform the 10/22.

Anyone know a good place to get some GI style slings? I've never learned to shoot with one, so I'm not sure which to get.

Those familiar with the appleseed shoots. Would my Bolt action savage .22 with glass optics be up to snuff?

I currently have 3, 10 round mags for it.

From what I have been reading, you could handle it if you are fast with a bolt. I know some have qualified as rifleman with bolt guns.

W9ZEB,

Your boltie will do just fine, the mags are the big help. Also, look into putting a pair of 1.25" sling swivels on it and get a USGI web rifle sling. The sling will improve your accuracy more than you can believe.

I built one. I still need to find a sling for it though.

I put the tech sights on my SKS too. Very nice.
