![]() | Need advice on .22 for 10 year old. I have taken my nephew shooting a few times now and I am thinking about getting him his own 22. The problem I have is I would like to get him a model 60 but it is a little to heavy for him to hold up and shoot accurately. I had a 10/22 last year that he was a little better with but I traded it for a savage .17hmr instead (I put myself ahead of him). So I am trying to get ideas on what would be a good gun for him. Something light and fairly cheap in price. I prefer to get him a semi auto. |

![]() | He probably needs something that he can handle. My son got a Marlin 15Y at about 7. He's got several guns now but still uses it. I really think a single is better anyway for shot placement, too many spray and pray'ers. I learned on a Stevens Crackshot, very nice, light rifle about the size of a Cricket. I'd hate to guess how many miles I carried that thing. |

For him, I think a bolt action would be a better teaching tool. Of course, all kids are different. But I'd still suggest a bolt-action. -J-

![]() ![]() ![]() | Have you considered a Contender Carbine, they are light, single shot, accurate, and as he grows he can get different barrels for it and even convert it to a handgun. I have a carbine and it's balance is a bit forward but not ungainly the operation is simple and safe, There should be more used contenders on the market than there are but it looks like people hold onto them

| Uber Leet ![]() | I would recommend the Ruger 10-22 youth model. It has a 16"barrel and the stock is a little shorter..
