![]() | AR question This is about a specific weapon so I thought I would start a new topic. I came across this Online Store — DPMS: AR-15 Rifles, Parts and Accessories. in my local dealers rack new for $645 + tax. I had been thinking of building a lower and then buying a complete upper but this is cheaper than what I can do that for. I am really just looking for a plinking/range weapon. Possibly taking a carbine class in the future. I plan to put a Halo sight on it with flip up iron sights for back up in the future. So do you AR gurus think this is a decent deal? I know there are much better weapons out there but at a price, a price that I don't think I am ready for. Unless there is some great reason to avoid this Sportical. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I've never dealt with it, but let me ask you, how much did you figure a build to cost you? This Kit: Del-Ton, Inc. AR-15 16" M4 Rifle Kit This Lower: AIM Superior Arms S-15 AR15 .223/5.56 Lower Receiver Superior Arms S-15 AR15 .223/5.56 Lower Receiver + =555 + however much for a transfer + shipping Not saving that much by the end, maybe like $50, but you'll learn the system really well ![]()

![]() | Upper $561 with shipping Lower $79.95 plus shipping and transfer I can buy local for $110 without fees though. Looks like $677 complete with tax on the lower. I can get the Sportical for $690.15 out the door with 2 30 round mags, sling and plastic case. I spent 11 years in the Army so even after 16 years as a civilian I am sure I can fumble my way through a disassemble reassemble drill. I am thinking it to be a pretty good deal for a starter rifle. I bought a AR at Knob Creek several years ago for what apeared to be a good deal but it turned out to be a piece of crap. The name brand was Dolphan and it was lucky to hit a basketball at 50yrds 1 out of 10 shots. I don't want anything like that again. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Then it look like a good deal. Are you going to put optics on it? Iron sights (sportical needs both front and rear)? Also, IDK if its a big deal or not, but the sportical doesn't have a forward assist, port door or brass deflector. Not sure how dirty it'll get, but I was like "WTH looks so funny" lol.

![]() | I know the smoot reciever is kind of different. I wish it had a dust cover but the rest doesn't matter. I plan on putting a EO-Tec on it right away with back up iron sights in the future as funds allow. I hear both good and bad about DPMS just don't know how bad the bad really is. |

![]() ![]() | looks like a pretty good deal to me. you'll end up with more than one anyway...build the next one. this rifle should do you fine. put the holo and buis on it, add a light and it should be ready for just about anything.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Neocon: I think I looked at the same rifle this week (at a local dealer close to both of us). I'm also considering purchasing the DPMS. I'm looking for a basic AR and considered putting one together as well.

![]() | I can get over everything except the dust cover. I am going buying today (hopefully)and will probably decide at the last minute after looking at them again. Daves gun shop is having a open house kind of thing today with food and prizes and special deals today. I am going to pay him a visit this morning. I just hate to buy the cheapest I can find and then have issues with it. |
