![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The Mosin-Nagant. What's the big deal? Okay, I got into the shooting sports a few years ago. My only experience with the Mosin Nagant is through Call of Duty World at War. From that, I know that the Mosin is a powerful weapon. But, I recently got an email from a gun store that I go to every once in a while, they have them for $100. Why? Why do people like them so much? And, why are the so cheap? Post your pics too. I want to see what the big deal is. Thanks everybody. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | A awesome piece of history at an inexpensive price that is built to last forever and fires a round that has been compared to a 30-06. I think their tight, though I don't own one. One is in my future, right when I was gunna get one their prices shot up and I didn't want to spend 150 on one. Now that they are back around 100 im considering it.

Ok, so we have to adjust the prices a little now. Up until about a year ago, you could get a 91/30 in good condition, still with cosmoline on it for under $70.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ok ill be "that guy." Mosins are cheap for a reason, Russia made something like 48 millions of the guns and the lack of quality is appalling. Bolt is hard to cycle, loading the mag is difficult, fit and finish (at least on mine) was almost non existent and the foregrip heated up to hot within a few shots. Its extremely loud, kicks like a mule and for all that it wasnt all that accurate (comparing it to my 1903a3, and Mausers). Now maybe I got a bad one but I think my problem was I like a quality gun and the Mosin just isnt one. I go for the Mauser actions, with bolts of silk and controlled feed and ejection, accuracy like non other and quality fit and finish. Mosins are like Hi-points, they work but by golly there at the bottom end of the quality scale (in my book). Anyways let the flaming begin on how wrong I am and how awesome the Mosin is. ![]()

If you know enough to say what you did, then you should also know that Mosins were in active service for at least 68 years, and used as second line weapons far beyond that. You should also be aware that these rifles were made in at least 5 countries and in multiple factories in many of those countries. You should also realize that during its long service, production standards varied due to war, internal conflict, and other social events (history). I myself have a late war production 91/30 with all of the problems you describe. It works fine but the bolt sticks, the machining is rough, and its about a 3 MOA rifle. What I am trying to communicate is: Pre-war Tula Hex != late war Izhevsk round != Finn M39

![]() ![]() | Here is a good comparison between three popular platforms. I think it pretty well describes the appeal of the Mosin. Mosin Nagant Humor* AK vs. AR vs. Mosin Nagant
