870 police magnum

buddy of mine is eyeing an 870 police magnum at a shop near him, used of course, but he says its in good working order other than some scuffs on the woods. first off whats the big diference between that and a normal 870 and whats a decent price? he wont tell me know much it is, but wants me to give him an idea of value. thanks in advance for any info. (tried a search and came up short)

Depends on the model. However all Police magnums will have some better internal parts as far as quality goes to ensure reliability.

Shell stops are dual staked, IIRC. Triggerguard isn't plastic. Deeper (thicker?) parkerizing.

Think a new 870 Police runs around 650.00 on Gunbroker. Forget what officer price is on them at Jenkins, maybe 450.00 or so.

ok more details arise. its an 18 inch, wood, single ball sight on front and is listed at $200. that does not seem unreasonable to me, what do you think?

Sounds like a piece of junk, advise him not to buy it....

Jump on it. From what you said, it is in good shape. Express models (low-end 870s) go for that much used.

I bought my Police magnum in 1995 for about $350, new, after leaving the Academy. Buy it for $200. That is a smokin price for a great shotgun.
