![]() ![]() ![]() | Not sure about Thompson-Center BUT, Lyman advises using pellets in any of their non-inline guns due to ignition problems. I have seen this advise on several muzzle loading forums. If it ignites by means of a small hole in the SIDE of the barrel, I would cauition against pellets as they are harder to ignite. Also, percussion caps such as the #11 have less flame than the in-line 209. That's why they make powder versions of Pyrodex and Triple 7. Use at your risk. Remember, getting the ball/bullet out of the bottom fo a blind bore of a muzzle loader can be a Bi--h. They do make a CO2 powered thing that will blow the charge out of the bore if it doesn't ignite. |

| Sharpshooter | So this is a sidelock? Sidelocks should always use loose powder instead of pellets. A percussion gun can use the various fake blackpowders and be fine, though you may need to use magnum caps to get it to ignite, depending on how your gun is set up. A flintlock needs real blackpowder to fire. Pyrodex/all the others have too high of an ignition temperature for the sparks from a flintlock to ignite. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You should use loose powder in a non- in line ( side lock). The percussion cap does'nt have enough spark to give reliable ignition. You may also find that being able to adjust your load by small amounts helps get better shot groups. Don
