![]() | Any experience w/ HK SL8-6, FN's FS2000, or PS90? At the moment, I'm torn between these three rifles: HK's SL8-6, FN's PS90, and FN's FS2000. Does anyone have any experience w/ any of these 3 firearms? It'll be a looong while before I can afford one, so I've got plenty of time to research them...but there's not much substitute for personal experience. |

| BOFH ![]() | As much as I like the PS90, I'd either buy the FS2000, or SL8. The 5.7x28 isn't my first choice. While there's a lot of argument over the .223/5.56 it's still a much larger round than the 5.7x28

![]() | I have handled an SL8 and IMO, unless you plan to convert it to a G36 clone, don't waste your money. The neutered gun sucks and costs a crap load. I couldn't even get my thumb on the safety with that stupid thumb hole stock (since its location was designed with a pistol grip in mind). I actually hand to use my other hand to flip it. I have pretty large hands too BTW. The trigger also sucked big time, as is usual with 90% of all things HK (one big exception being the P7). A good trigger is nice on a handgun, but is vital on a rifle IMO. I have not experience with the FS2000 other than I have held it on a couple occasions. It is short, but still feels large. I couldn't see the insane price tag in the gun. It just didn't feel like it should cost that much. The thing is very plastic-y. When you can get 2-3 decent ARs for the price of one FS2000, there is something wrong. Machined aluminum is FAR more expensive than plastic and yet the prices seem to show the opposite. If you want different, I say wait and see how the Bushmaster ACR comes out or maybe see about a Robinson XCR. I have played with a few XCRs and they feel pretty nice.

| BOFH ![]() | Mostly just the look and feel of the rifle..... I'd have to spend the money to get an NFA stamp so I could SBR it if I was going to get the PS90.... It just doesn't look right with the 16" barrel.

Bhriindan82: I've also handled the FS2000 and seen it "in action" - it feels like a boat to me, and is designed such that clearing certain types of malfunctions involves detail-stripping the gun. ![]() I've had some trigger time on a PS90, and was unimpressed. Anemic but expensive caliber, a manual of arms unlike anything else out there, white-reticle optic that washes out in the daytime, and one of the most non-ergonomic layouts of any gun I've fired. To say nothing of the ridiculous pricetag. The 50-rd magazine and bottom ejection were nice features, but that's about it. In short, I'd pass on all three of the rifles you mention. If you gotta have a bullpup, get an STG-556. If you gotta have an HK-style rifle, get a PTR-91. If you gotta have a non-AR .223 carbine, get a SIG-556 or an XCR. My ![]() | |

![]() | Got a PS90 and like it. Very accurate and easy to point in tight places (CQ). Like the 50 round mags and the light weight. About the only complaint is the trigger pull, but once I got used to it, I can put up with it. As to the round being anemic, I have yet to find anyone willing to stand in front of me while I test it's ballistics. ![]() I would like the FS2000 but I can't justify $2000 or so for something that can be replaced by an AR-15 at less than half the price. |

| BOFH ![]() | ![]() That's on the Short List of rifles I intend to own. It's a PTR-91. They purchased all of the tooling, and original blueprints directly from HK for the G3

One problem with HK's rifles that us reloaders just can't live with is the fact that they destroy brass. I mean, nearly tear the rim off. It makes sense that it is meant as a military rifle, but I am not and don't have the budget of a military to pay for my ammo, so reloading is a must for me.
