![]() | Can't go wrong with a Marlin Model 60 (Only the most produced .22 LR rifle of all time) Or a Ruger 10/22 (probably the most accessorizable rifle on the market, save for the AR stuff) Or a Marlin Model 39, a certain classic Or my personal favorite, the Browning BL-22. Once you shoot a BL-22, you'll never want another lever action. You'll be certainly spoiled with the short throw...33 degrees. And smooth. Love it! -J-

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My money is on the Ruger 10/22. While the Marlin can claim to have produced the most ever, the Ruger is currently the most popular and has been outselling the Marlin for many years. The only advantage that provides is that it is easy to upgrade and modify a Ruger 10/22. In fact it is probably the most modifiable rifle on the planet, with the possible exception of the AR15. Ruger 10/22 rifles come in plain vanilla (blued metal, simple wood stock) to various forms of heavy target barrels, laminated stocks, stainless, composite stocks, etc. Modifications are endless and they are probably the most popular 22lr target guns in competition by a wide margin when the competition involves a semi-auto. As for bolt guns, I love the Savage with the "Accu-Trigger" option. I do not own one but when I was buying my daughter's new 22lr that rifle really stood out as exceptional. Another rifle, often overlooked, is the CZ lineup of 22lr rifles. They come is about a dozen different configurations from basic to beautiful high grades, heavy or light barrels, etc. CZ makes great rifles and are worthy of consideration.

![]() | I'll keep that in mind. I learned to shoot on an old .22 Marlin (not sure what model), so I'm purchasing the rifle partly for the sentimental value. I like what I've heard about the Ruger 10/22 though, so it's likely next on the list. |

![]() | The 10/22 always gets lots of votes and there are LOTD of accessory items. When I went out to relive my youth, I bought another Marlin 60. I just love that rifle and I like the sleek look/handling. I feel it's a great "true survival" rifle.

![]() Those were my picks...Also, if you are into(own) Ar15's take a look at the M261 .22lr conversion kit. It is really nice to be able to train with my favorite rifle/favorite optic(ACOG TA31F) for <3 cents a round. | |

| Marksman | I have a Ruger 10/22 and never had a problem with it, shoots great. I wish I could say the same about my Remington 522 Speedmaster. Had misfire issues with it for about as long as I have had it.
