Breaking in New Gun

Could some one tell me the process of breaking in a new AR and would it be the same for an AK? I have only bought a couple of new guns, most of the time I try to buy used because of the money. When I was in the Marine Corps the armorer always broke in our guns before we got them. I did buy a new AK over a year ago and its still in the box….shame on me.

Clean good, then shoot a little, clean and repeat to your own preferance. Then shoot shoot shoot. Thats the way I did my non chrome Yugo Ak. And its very accurate now. And cleans almost as easy as chrome. Have fun breaking it in!

Unless you have some kind of super duper special barrel, the process for breaking-in an AR is:

1. Inspect to make sure all the pieces are there and that the gas carrier key is properly staked.
2. Lube the crap out of the bolt and bolt carrier. The bolt carrier should be visibly wet with lube.
3. Shoot it as much as you like.
4. Re-lube, or clean and re-lube (your choice), then put it wherever you put it until you want to shoot it again.

Service grade ARs, especially those with chrome lined barrels and chambers will not benefit from any of the "break-in" rituals that are common among bolt-gun shooters.

Rhino is right on the money here. Just shoot and clean if you feel like it. I just change the oil on my AR's myself.
