He's not asking for a new document or a rewrite of the original one, as I read it. He's saying that we need to distance ourselves from prejudice and bigotry. On the surface, I can agree with that sentiment. Though it was not stated as a goal of his, I cannot support "hate crime" laws to make what he did say happen. I also would be concerned that such a statement is designed to get people accustomed to the idea of a new DoI (document) much as was indicated by Charles Krauthammer was the benefit to the original AWB-to get the public used to the idea that government has any business at all trying to control guns. I'll give the guy this: He knows how to say all the right things. His credibility is what's in question, however, and his integrity. The only things of his I would deny at this point are his patriotism for America and his respect for her ideals. I'm not supporting him, but I'm trying to not discount what he says solely because he says it, which is difficult.

ETA: On re-reading, I caught his comment about "small-thinking". I think this could possibly indicate a move toward globalism as well. See my comment above re: patriotism for America and respect for her ideals.

Globalism was started with the UN. His presidency will be the next move towards the end of our country as we know it.

To be fair, my comment was just the natural mental extension of the headline in my mind. What I did consider dubious form, however, was his reference to a "new declaration of independence." Seemed like bad judgment at best, and at worst, an attitude that I'm not real comfortable with.

It wasn't a fact explicitly in evidence, but nevertheless, implied, in my opinion, given past statements of his.

I know all politicians deal in hyperbole on a regular basis, but with this guy, I just honestly don't trust his intentions.

Points to Bill for reading the article in question and for his comments, especially, "He knows how to say all the right things."

Yeah, he really does. And that's what makes him very scary to me.
