I thinks its not far from what she said in her own words. Her family has a lot to do with it.

Her daughters are under constant attack from washed up comedians like Dave Letterman, saying jokes like "her 14 year old daughter got knocked up during the 7th inning of a baseball game she attended with her mom." Can you imagine if the whole country was laughing at your expense if you were a 14 year old? Her family must be begging her to take a break from politics. She may step back into the scene when her kids are older.

I like her stance on many things, but I'm not sure I want her to represent us on the world stage.

This is pretty close to my take.

I would probably agree with her position on 99 issues out of 100. However, that is only a small part of being president, or any other kind of leader for that matter.

Like it or not, a big part of the job of president is being able to act the part and appear like you know what you're doing. Most of the times I have seen Palin on TV or answering questions, she seems scattered and unfocused.

This press conference is a prime example. At least the part I saw, she did not have to answer any questions or respond to anything on the spot. She could have prepared and rehearsed this speech for another week if she wanted to. Yet still, she came across as somewhat random and unorganized, as if she just had a sudden urge to resign 45 minutes before she went on camera.

If this is the speech that is to launch her presidential campaign and take her to the next level, it needed to be a lot clearer message and a lot stronger performance than what I saw.

I think we could do far worse than Palin to represent us.

Let me restate that.

I think we ARE DOING FAR WORSE (right now) than Palin representing us.

For this guy, she is done. In my opinion, barring a reason for dismissal, a person doesn't simply quit a contract until you have seen it through. Her electorate chose her to be governor for X number of years, quitting your job is not acceptable.

She may be following the Regan steps after all with a bit of a twist. What do I mean. Well it appears that after Regan was gov of CA when his term ended, he spent 4 years just touring the nation, speaking, holding events, etc.. before he ran for office! In essence he went and build support and had the country know him. She might be thinking of this since the country really does not know her.

Also her initial comments where she did not want to be a lame duck gov in which she could not get stuff done for the people of Alaska since the congress (alaska) would know it was her last term. So instead left the Lt. Gov take over for the last few months and then he can get re-elected (if he wants) or they can pick someone else. Not sure I fully buy this.

It could be that by stepping down she can do her thing, go out and speak and not hold back anything since she won't be representing Alaska or the REP. Going back to what others have said here about her being held back. She could become what Newt is (a true conservative speaker) that may or may not go with what the current Rs do.
