Lupica is the writer of the linked article.

He's a sports writer. He usually writes about how good someone is at hitting a ball with a stick, or how well someone can throw a ball through a hoop. His profession is commenting on games.

Now someone who is famous for playing a game has been killed, and suddenly Lupica has pretensions of having intelligent insight into complex grownup issues like the causes of violence and crime. In Lupica's brilliant, deep analysis, Steve McNair was murdered because of mean bad old guns, without which everyone would live in a state of joyous peace, so why don't we just get rid of them?

It's not really very insightful; it's childish.

Hence, Lupica should go back to writing about games, which he seems to understand, and leave the real adult world to more grownup writers.
