You guys are missing the point here. This is really aimed at the businesses that buy lots of recalled items or close out items and resell them for a profit. The news article is inflammatory and trying to scare people. Further this is not new news. This was reported here in Indy on the news months ago. No I don't agree with a bigger brother government but I think you are making a big thing out of nothing. If you don't know that an Item was recalled and are acting in good faith then there is no criminal intent. However if I go to a toy store and buy all the lead based painted toys that are prone to spontaneous combustion and sell them to unsuspecting people out of the wrapper then I am doing something wrong and should be stopped.

What it's "really aimed at" isn't the problem, assuming you're right about what that is. The problem is what it's actually going to hit...that being essentially virtually anyone the enforcers of this law choose to go after. I've seen this sort of crap in action. It's a prefabricated setup.

I had a friend who would buy old craftsman and snap-on tools that were broken at yard sales....then he would return them to the company for a new tool (since they have a lifetime warranty). Then he would sell the new tool....I wonder if this sort of thing will be shut down cause the gubment isn't getting its "cut"

This may have to do with a sales tax problem but it has nothing to do with selling recalled items.

I go to a lot of garage sales and flea markets and I'm guessing the actual wordage targets reselling of NEW items. I see a bunch of vendors that all they have is cases and cases of new, cheap (insert your favorite country of origin here) crap for sale. I see a lot of pirate dvds, ladies handbags etc for sale. We refer to them as "pro" flea marketers because they aren't the typical "cleaning out the attic" type. Gubmint needs to stop this shiite from coming into the country at its source. If they wanna jack these guys go for tax evasion or something but don't sanction the end seller because our borders are so porous as to let this crap in by the boatload!
