I spent years teaching my kids not to talk to, listen or take candy or strangers. If he wants to speak to my children he can show me what he has to say first.

Stranger danger!

They don't come much stranger or more dangerous than an administration that can't figure out how to "file their taxes" wants to raise ours. Not even going to mention a President that spends thousands of dollars hiding his citizenship and education records.

Enough said?

That's pretty good. I said my piece and now the whole concept is being painted as lunacy by the left... I'm done

I'd say you got some good responses. He's playing the "It's secret" card so it can't be ALL about education.

Didn't Bush I pretty much do the same thing in 1991? The address was about education but managed to mix in talking points for his education plan.

In 1991 House Majority leader, Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.), said "The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students."

Sounds like the same thing I am hearing today, but from the other side.

Nice find.

Part of Bush's speech pack then:
Quote:
"The speech at Alice Deal Junior High School, broadcast live on radio and television, urged students to study hard, avoid drugs and turn in troublemakers."

I once heard a story from a Cuban immigrant (legal, I assume). He said when he was young Castro would send his minions into the schools, and give them candy or ice cream for saying how great Castro was. The kids didn't really care what they were saying, but the connection was being made: Castro = happiness

Now today. Obama's message may be completely innocuous, but the kids are getting out of classwork to hear the president speak. I know when I was a kid anything that broke up the monotony was a Good Thing. So even if there is absolutely nothing in the message worth quibbling over, the connection is being made. The president = good.

Honestly I don't care what president it is, or what party affiliations he or she may have, the subconscious connection between the president and the feeling of happiness a school child gets when not forced to go to class is dangerous. We already face a multi-generational battle to force the federal government back into its Constitutional cage, we don't need to be breeding children who view it as a source of contentment.

I'll have to disagree, in 1986 when the Challenger disaster happened, my school postponed regular classes to discuss the event. I didn't feel that the president's speech=happiness because I missed regularly scheduled classes. 9/11/01, the president's speech didn't make the ='s happiness litmus test either, it DID cause me to take leave of my job and rejoin the military. If I am not provided proof of what is said BEFORE it is "taught" to my child, IT WILL NOT HAPPEN! My
