![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | US House issues apology for slavery & Jim Crow laws The title says it all. The only White member of the House to represent a predominantly Black district proposed this and got it passed today. House formally apologizes for slavery and Jim Crow - Yahoo! News Here's my question: The resolution promises to "rectify the damages and harms" that the Jim Crow laws caused (paraphrase, not an exact quote) This is great news! See... Gun control was one of the first types of Jim Crow laws to pass, so that means that if they're going to rectify those harms, that means they're going to repeal gun control! Ok, yeah, I know.. they're politicians, which means they lie, but it would sure be nice if we could hold them to their word on this. Nancy Pelosi would positively herself first.Still, though, what would you all think about a letter campaign to hold their feet to the fire? Blessings, B |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If they're really sorry about Jim Crow laws, they could do the right thing and repeal the only vestiges of Jim Crow that still exist: almost every gun control law on the books.

| Master ![]() | Can reparations be far away? Since my gggrandfather fought for the North even though he lived in KY. Did they put a footnote in, that the apology didn't come from my family as we didn't have anything to apologize for? Hell the area I was born didn't have any black people anywhere in the county for us to discriminate against if we had been so disposed (which we weren't). So we never owned a slave, fought to free the slaves, never discriminated against.... I suppose just feeling this way makes me a racist though.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes, the ******* party will certainly use their time-honored formula of rectifying the damages by throwing money at this, thus giving it to people who were never harmed or injured solely because they might have had ancestors that were. Truly rectifying the damages would involve actual work, though, not to mention repealing those laws that still hearken back to the days of Jim Crow. This is so transparently an election-year stunt to win them more votes they don't deserve. Blessings, B |
