![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Immigration Deported Mexicans face broken lives - Americas - MSNBC.com I just read this story on the deportation of Mexicans back to Mexico. Besides the liberal side of this article making their rightful deportation so difficult. The one thing that really stuck out to me was this.... Alejandro Fonseca was convicted on drug charges and deported last year. He now lives in Tijuana with his American wife and three U.S.-born children. They have survived by eating at the Salvation Army shelter in a rough Tijuana neighborhood near the border. But his 13-year-old daughter has missed a year of school. She cannot go to school in Mexico because she does not speak Spanish. If a neighboring country will not cater to English speaking persons then why in the hell do we cater to them? ![]() |

She could've stayed in the United States with the kids since they are all citizens. He's just lucky he isn't in prison. And, we're lucky not to have to pay to keep him incarcerated.

I thought the same thing. The wife and kids have options, they could have stayed here and went to school.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | not so many options for the woman in her opinion... if you had been married for x number of years and had three kids with that person, you're pretty committed right? And if some government agency said, Oh, I'm sorry, your husband is here illegally, so we're going to have to take him away from you and the kids... would you stay here or go with the husband you obviously love? I doubt they had a lot of money to go hop over to Mexico every weekend to visit Dad, if they're "surviving" by eating at the SA shelter. *shrug* I doubt she really felt she had any option emotionally but to stay with him, even if legally she could stay here.

If the man were still in the US, he'd be in prison. She'd be driving hours to visit him during visitors hours. I get they are in "Luuuuuuvvv", but do what's best for your kids. She could, and probably would, be able to collect welfare and some type of family assistance ten minutes North of TJ in San Diego. They are for sure not getting any government assistance in Mexico. Remember, he was convicted of drug charges. That's why he was deported. |

The point the OP was making, though, is that their schools won't allow her to go because she doesn't speak Spanish. Ours, OTOH, have no such limitation, but probably should. Ditto on work visas. Blessings, B
