![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Obama removes 2nd Amendment from his ISSUES webpage Ok what is going on with this election? We had a MONUMENTAL ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court on the gun issue. The primary elections were rife with talk about guns. But NOWHERE is there any mention of guns in the press. In fact there is so little discussion about guns, except on the internet gun boards, that Barack Obama removed all mention of gun rights from his "Issues" page. Barack Obama's ISSUES page: Barack Obama and Joe Biden: The Change We Need | IssuesI can only assume that since most of the mainstream media is comfortably in Obama's hip pocket they are playing along with him and being polite enough not remind anyone about his record on guns. Now despite the fact that the media is not reporting on guns in regard to election politics . . . the media however continues issuing its routine national "news" reports of many minor local gun-related crimes, creating a false impression that gun violence is random (it is highly localized in "bad" neighborhoods), an intrinsic value of firearms (it is largely related to the federalized war on some drugs), and that guns should be outlawed since outlaws use them (the same as outlaws use getaway cars, stolen cash, knives, clubs, liquor, cigarettes, soft drinks, tattoos and everything else). |

![]() | From his "Urban Policy" Page: Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama also favors commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. He supports closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. He also supports making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets." ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well isn't that slimy! He used to have a whole section on GUN POLICY but removed it, then buried his gun ban agenda under "Urban Policy" What I don't understand is why isn't McCain bringing up the gun issue? Is he waiting for a debate? There are a lot of gun owners who still are supporting Obama, this could be one of the defining issues but nobody is bringing it up! |

Don't get me wrong, I wish it was Ron Paul running on top of the GOP ticket, but it was not meant to be. So we get what we get and I don't say that as a dyed in the wool Republican, I say that as a gun owner. Our only realistic hope is John McCain. He's not perfect, in fact he's the lesser of a lot of evils that we were presented with from the GOP side of the aisle, but he's not a gun grabbing socialist like Obama. Barr may get 2% of the vote, he is tracking at that rate, this election is running so close that 2% is more than enough to swing the election from McCain to Obama. I know some people mistakenly claim to have principles and refuse to vote for McCain . . . to them I can only ask how they will explain to their grandkids what they did to cause the loss of our freedoms.

Obama is without a doubt far more anti 2nd than McCain, however neither candidate has a good record so its really a losing issue for both parties. So they'll brush it under the rug. Not that it really matters. Gun owners will still compromise their values and vote for the lessor of two evils. Last edited by ar15junkie; 09-13-2008 at 01:35.

We have a choice between: Candidate A: has tried to make it clear that he will support our 2A rights. Yes his record is mixed. or Candidate B: has PLAINLY and clearly said he will support a permanent ban on what would probably equate to any firearm deemed "not sporting" and repeal provisions that inhibit gun traces (is it me or does that sound like mandatory registration?) Which means you'd have to change your member name to "blackpowderjunkie" or "Rem700junkie" I'd be compromising some of my values no matter who I voted for. It just depends on the priority of your values. The 2A is up there right around number 2 on my value list. I'm not so sure Obama hasn't sponsored some gun control bills at the state/local level. You know, the IL FOID card and chicago's wonderful laws. It's hard to tell, he's done so little, except vote "present" when a simple "yes or no" would suffice. You are assuming that another AWB will be just like the last, with some work arounds and a sunset. The antis learned from their mistakes on that ban. They won't make them again. It will be all or nothing.
