Even though we had 8" of snow we still had a succesfull shoot. Not a big turnout but we still had 17 shooters today. We had a great time and if you werent there or don't shoot cowboy action, your missing out on a good time! I hope you enjoy the pics.

Yeah some of the guys when it gets cold don't dress the part, but at least they came and shot the match. We will let any body shoot, not to particular in the monthly matches on critiques, especially when its colder then an Alaskan well diggers a$$.

My local club has a cowboy shoot that I have been itching to check out.

These look like alot of fun!

I have seen the dolly/carts what is the deal with them? Are they just to carry the long guns or do you have to have something I am not seeing?

Hey Greg, nice to hear from from ya buddy.

I didnt even think about a pocket pistol or a derringer. How many/what kind of guns do you need to have for cowboy shoots?

We have side matches before our main matches and so there are a few other guns we shoot besides the main match guns.
Main match- lever action rifle, 2 pistols and a shotgun
Side matches we shoot our main match guns, derringer, pocket pistol, 22 lever, 22 pistol. We also shoot long range after our main matches. We shoot our main match rifle, pistol, 22 rifle, big bore lever, and big bore single shot.
It is not required to have 22 rifle, 22 pistol, derringer, pocket pistol, big bore guns. They are only if you want to shoot those particular side matches. I hope that helps. Feel free to ask more questions.

Do all of the guns need to be somewhat period related?

I have a OM Blackhawk and I could get another easy enough
I have a 39a .22 levergun that really doesnt fit in
Hopkins and Allen single shot .22 that is the right age to fit in.
I dont have an older levergun right now but I have acouple of 336 30-30s

Sounds like this is going to get pricey pretty quick!

Initial cost of getting your main match guns can be a little expensive, you just have to find what you think are good deals and work towards getting what you need. All you need to start out with is your lever gun, it can be in 38, 44, 44-40, 45, it can be black powder or smokeless. You need two pistols in any of those calibers. Fixed sites single action only. You need a shotgun. Now you can have a 1897 pump gun, you can have a SxS or a levered shotgun. It can be 20 or 12. You will also need a holster rig and a shotgun belt of some sort, should be leather or canvas. Depending on your attire and how you want to shoot will determine what class you will shoot in. I reccomend you go to a couple of monthly matches and watch. Usually someone will strap you into a rig and let you shoot a stage or two. I love bringing new people in and letting them shoot my guns.:rockwoot:
Even if you dont have all your guns there are people who have extra stuff you can use to get you started.
