I would like to invite everyone to attend the Red Brush Rifle Range Steel Challenge match just east of Evansville, IN. This match is sanctioned by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association and hosted by the Indiana Practical Pistol Shooters. The match is open to the public and starts at 9:00 AM on the 2nd Sunday of each month April through October. The cost is $5 per adult shooter and juniors under 18 shoot for free. There are divisions for just about any pistol, as well as .22 rimfire rifle. Targets are all steel ranging from 8 inch round to 18x24 rectangle. This is an extremely fun match to shoot and it is a good way to introduce firearm enthusiasts to the shooting sports. I have listed all the particulars below. More info and directions to the range can be found at Red Brush Rifle Range.

I hope to see you there!

    Red Brush Steel Challenge

Match name: Steel Challenge, hosted by the Indiana Practical Pistol Shooters.

Location: Red Brush Rifle Range (just east of Evansville, IN)
    3299 West Eble Road
    Newburgh, IN 47630

Schedule: 2nd Sunday of the month April through October.
    Signup starts at 8:00am.
New Shooter Meeting starts at 8:30am.
    Match starts at 9:00am.

Cost: $5 per adult shooter. Juniors under 18 shoot for free.

Preliminary signup and squadding will be available online through PractiScore starting 2 weeks before every match. https://practiscore.com/clubs/red-brush-indiana-practical-pistol-shooters
Final check-in and payment will be done at RBRR on match day.

Firearms used: Divisions for virtually all handguns, including .22LR open & limited, single & double-action revolvers, open & limited centerfire pistols, as well as the new Carry Optics division. There is also a division for .22LR carbine rifle.

Usual number of rounds needed: At least 125 rounds if you never miss. [I would bring extra!]

Other equipment needed: Eye and ear protection is required for everyone. Holster, belt, mag pouches for centerfire guns. Just extra mags for .22LR (shot from low-ready position so no holster needed for .22s).

Targets: All steel. 8", 10", and 12" round plates, 18"×24" rectangles.

Format: All-steel match run according to Steel Challenge Shooting Association rules. With a few exceptions, courses of fire consist of 5 non-reactive steel plates, one of which is a designated stop plate. Each shooter will shoot each stage 5 times, with the best 4 runs counting for score. Missed plates or late shots incur a 3 second penalty each. The match will generally consist of 5 such stages. Since there is no steel to reset, stages run quickly with squads simply needing to put fresh paint on the targets between shooters (and pick up brass if desired).

Prizes: Bragging rights for the month.

More information and directions to the range can be found at Red Brush Rifle Range

A big thank you to everyone who braved the rain to attend the first RBRR Steel Challenge match of the 2016 season. It turned out to be a great day with 53 shooters attending. The help setting up, tearing down, scoring, painting targets, serving as RO and such is much appreciated as always!

Based on the unanimous vote of the shooters at the 2016-06 match, we are going to move our match setup/registration/start times up by one hour for the remainder of the year, trying to minimize the amount of time that we are standing in the sun and the heat, especially on Bay 6.

That means that starting next month, setup will start at 6:45am or so, registration runs from 8:00am to 8:55am sharp, and we'll have our shooters meeting and match start at 9:00am. If you show up at 10:00am, there's nothing we can do. Squads will have been shooting for an hour, and we can't work you in. We are changing everything we can think of to reflect the updated time, but we might miss something. So regardless of what you read elsewhere, registration will begin at 8:00am and the match will start at 9:00am. Please spread the word to your fellow steel shooters.

We are also looking into acquiring a pop-up shelter to use for shade on Bay 6. Let me know if anyone has one that they no longer need and would be willing to part with at a decent price.

The Steel Challenge match scheduled for Sunday 8/14/16 at Red Brush has been cancelled due to the forecasted deluge of rain.

Registration for the August 14, 2016 Steel Challenge match at Red Brush is now open at https://practiscore.com/red-brush-steel-challenge-2016-08/register. It will be a 5 stage match with 5 squads. We plan on setting up 2 official SCSA stages and 3 outlaw / freestyle stages.

We have included the new Pistol Caliber Carbine divisions (Optic or Iron-sights) in the match. Every Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCCO or PCCI) will be required to have a chamber flag inserted between stages, as will any Rimfire Rifle (RFRO or RFRI). We will be selling chamber flags for $1 at the registration desk. Not trying to make money, just trying to give everyone incentive not to lose them and then expect a free one at every match. We will be donating all sales proceeds to the Appleseed committee who donated the chamber flags to us in the first place.

And, as always, if you need to alter your division, squad, etc., please use the direct link sent to you in your registration confirmation email, which allows you to edit your registration data, see who is in each squad, etc. Please do NOT just re-register with new info, leaving us wondering which is the current and which is the outdated registration.

Final check-in and payment will be done at RBRR on match day beginning at 8:00AM.

YOU MUST CHECK-IN AND PAY AT RED BRUSH PRIOR TO 8:55AM IN ORDER TO SHOOT IN THE MATCH!

    The match starts at 9:00AM.

The Steel Challenge match scheduled for Sunday 8/14/16 at Red Brush has been cancelled due to the forecasted deluge of rain. The slow speed and trajectory of this storm front means that the rain is going to last a long time before it lets up, making the chances of our hitting a 5-6 hour rain free window tomorrow mighty slim. And given the quantity of rain forecast, the range will be a swampy mess, slowing things down even more.

Please pass this info along to any of your shooting buddies who may not be on this mail list.

    See you all next month!

After deleting the no-shows and adding the walk-ins there were a total of 58 shooters who attended the last Red Brush Steel Challenge match of this year. We had ideal weather and everyone appeared to have great fun. The results are posted at...
    https://practiscore.com/results/html/b0716a16-a63b-44d5-bab1-11f46da842d2

Many thanks to everyone who helped with setup, takedown, scoring, RO duties, and everything else involved with keeping the match running throughout the year. It was much appreciated!

The next season of Steel Challenge matches at Red Brush will begin in March of 2017, weather permitting.
