   | Range likes and dislikes. I am interested in opening an indoor/outdoor range in Indiana in a couple years once I get out of the army. I've been shooting pistols and rifles for years and have been to several ranges in a couple states, but I have absolutely no competition experience (which I intend to rectify as soon as I get back to the states next year). Basically I am looking for input as to what you have liked and disliked about ranges or things that you would like to see at a range. I figured the competition forum would be a good place to start as many of you frequent different ranges more often than the non-competition group. I also figure that hosting competions would be a good way to draw people once I am operational. Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to participate in this thread.  | At least 4 or 5 bays (with good drainage) if you wish to attract IDPA, USPSA, or 3 Gun matches, a clubhouse with running water and power, a few well thought out and strategically placed safe tables with backstops, and some means of providing shade are a few things that immediately come to mind for a good range. |

| A bay is an area surrounded by berms on 3 sides, typically found at every club that holds action pistol type matches. Here's an example: Berms on 3 sides, with a match stage set up facing the back berm. There's a berm off to the left that's out of the picture here. |

| Cool. They're useful for other shooting activities too. Good for when you want multiple firing lines and ranges operating on their own terms. Keeps the whole range from having to go cold for a few people to switch targets and what have you. |
