beginner trap leagues???

it early but i was just woundering if anyone could help me out.. i would like to find a beginner trap league around indy that i could join in the spring.. i would like to know how the scoring works and so on.. i go out and shoot the birds now but on how the scoring and ranks work, iam clueless

Soon, after my new work schedule is confrimed, the GF and I will be hitting the MCFG on Thursday nights for some trap. It is West side of Indy. I am not a member of the club, no idea what they may have to offer but Thursday night is open to the public.

I am hoping it is laid back enough to do some training/teaching. If not there is Indy gun club on weekends and Atterbury as well. We may go down to Atterbury on Sunday morning for some skeet practice.

If we ever cross paths, you are welcome to shoot with us. My GF is new to clays as well but loving it.

thanks for the offer.... i will have to do that. i am heading to indiana gun club sunday to do some shooting myself. so i hope to get a head start with the learning process. yea i goton it. now i just need to learn the of the game.

Do you need a specific kind of shotgun to participate?

Will I be mocked if I show up with a 20" Mossberg?

dont worry u wont be the only one.. i use a binelli nova and my buddy uses a rem 870... so we can start a new trend in an old sport..

There is nothing wrong with shooting trap with a pump gun. I shot for years with a 26" 870 Express and have cleared 25 more than a few times. IMO, a 30" 870 Wingmaster is a GREAT trap gun.

I'd suggest heading out to a night and watch a time or two. Ask questions. DO NOT be intimidated by guys with fancy singles or o/u's.

Here's the simple run-down on a typical 16 yd squad.

• 5 positions - 5 shooters/squad
• 5 shots per position
• Loading the gun - it is customary to only load when it is your turn. You walk up to the line with an empty gun/open action
• Round starts with guy in #1 position yelling "PULL" and taking a shot. Shooter in position 2 follows. Then 3... continues until everyone has shot 5 shots. Afterwards, the scorer will say "MOVE" and everyone moves to the right one position. #5 goes to #1.
• Then you start again and continue until you've shot 5 from all 5 stations.
• Scoring is simple - 25 birds, 25 shots, 1 shot per bird
