![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | long term water source? I have well water and am thinking about buying something like this for long term power outages for water. WP2D DC280 - Oasis Hand Water Pump - PumpBiz Pumps You'll have to buy enough pipe on top of that to reach your water. I've also found another site that had a picture of a setup like this. ![]() I think you'd have to have a pretty shallow well to make this setup work but would be great if you can get it out of the cold. I'll probably go with the oasis system. |

| Master ![]() | I think my well is fairly shallow so I am pretty well set there. I definitely think something like this is the way to go. No water storage worries. You may have a SHTF scenario where you can't leave your shelter for a period of time. I have wondered about getting a bicycle generator that I have heard of before.

Regarding the handpump, I'm not sure of the exact depth, but you can only pump water by suction (a hand pump or a surface pump) somewhere around 18 feet I think. So if your water is deeper than that you need a submersible pump. You may be able to get a submersible hand-pump but that will be outside right over your well cap, not indoors like the photo shows. | |

| Master ![]() | My well pipe is in my basement :-) So that gets me about 8 foot closer to the water to begin with. My hand pump said good for 22 feet.

![]() ![]() | Our second well (bucket well) is 45 feet & the hand pump mechanism works quite well. Yes, some effort but I hope cleaner water than more shallow sources. The long-handled hand pump was obtained from Lehman's as mail-order (Kidron, Ohio).

I'll keep this in mind, though, because there are actually 2 well casings in the second well (we had the well drillers do that). Perhaps once this is all over we'll do that!! Do you know someone that sells/installs them? Or any links to online vendors? This is starting to really intrigue me... could have a constant trickle of fresh water for the free-range flock, and I see a garden irrigation system in the crystal ball!
