I have started filling my truck up when the gas level gets to 1/2 tank. I figure if something were to happen, that a 1/2 tank would be enough to get me where I needed to go.

It also reduces the sticker shock when you fill up, just overlook that it's only half of a tank and it's not so bad.

The filter elements are not as good as the "Black Berkey Elements"
The Black Berkey Elements are purifiers and will filter out Guiardia and Criptosporidia as well as viruses.

On a bit lighter note, you could consider my truck to be my bug out bag. I have fishing gear, water purification, full pack of bags of Ramen Noodles, 2 knives, flashlight, tools(mostly to keep my truck running!), change of clothes, and some other misc items. Not suitable for the whole family, but in case the old lady kicks me to the curb I can live outta my truck for a while!
What if your truck breaks down or gets stuck or you have an accident which leaves the truck inoperable? Whould you have anything to put the necessary items in for transport - such as if you have to "hoof" it? What if you were in a REAL hurry (tornado/flooding - whatever) It would take time to pack everything you would need to transport. "Scattered" wouldn't get it in an emergency. Is it in a bag?

I keep a folding hand truck in my truck just in case! I won't be able to carry much, but I'll be able to carry more than if I had to carry it all on my back.

Great idea! I was thinking of a deer cart. Because, like you said, a back can get pretty heavy and with a cart of some kind (depending on your route) one can carry more.

Actually, a folding deer cart would probably work a lot better and would allow you to carry a lot more stuff with less effort. The bigger wheels would help too.

I just have the folding hand truck because I use it to wheel my stuff into and out of school. Plus I got it for $30 at Home Depot.
