Well, it's more than a stage... it's the after effects of a Grandma who told them to do so. Also told them they don't have to listen to us, tried to take them all away from us for no other reason than she is a controlling ***** and is mad that my fiance and I moved her favorite granddaughter away from her. and other stuff too, but it's too long a story and wrong thread... lol But trust me, we are slowly working through it.

And as far as being prepared this week, we are going to go over our Bug Out plan in the next couple days...

I found that my father's truck was down to a quarter tank (gasoline) ... not good for being prepared! It is now full.

Last night I tested my new rechargeable batteries in a flashlight. They function nicely!

I use the rechargeables for everything. Using a recharger and a 300 watt power inverter in my truck works perfect. I highly recommend everyone investing in at least a 300watt power inverter for your vehicles. And rechargeable batteries pay for themselves. They may look expensive, but compare that to how much you pay for non-rechargables... the rechargeables last as long as 10 20pack AA's. If not longer. I use them in my wireless keyboard, digi camera, kids toys, flashlights, remotes, etc.

Almost forgot, invest in a couple shaker lights. You know the ones i'm talking about. Even after an EMP blast they will still work! I've disassembled mine and put it back together and it still works. Nifty little things!

Shakers, hand cranks, and pumpers all work pretty well now that LED emitters work so well.

I'm going to use rechargeables in all of my "using" lights, but for those that I carry on my person for emergencies, I'm going to stick to Lithiums. They're lighter and I know they won't discharge over time (unless there is a problem with the gadget/light).

The 15-minute charger I snagged works as advertised, by the way. Now I need to test my solar charger.

Solar chargers are great. I picked up one off ebay for my PDA and mp3 player. It charges with a USB and MiniUSB connector. I'd like to find one which has more adapters. I have other adapters for this one, but I'd like to find one that uses regular home plugs.

I understand what you are saying. I had a problem with my mother also, but on a much smaller scale.
I wish you the best of luck and all the strength necessary to correct the problem!
Children are very bright and understand a lot more that many adults think. They will see and feel the love you are giving them and WILL appreciate it.

What's sad is that the "normal" attitude in America was to be prepared. Our parents (grandparents for you striplings) always had extra for "just in case" because they grew up during the depression (or worse). I'm not sure how that attitude was lost, but perhaps it's because life has become too easy and too convenient for most people. They don't think about walking a few miles to get a sack of flour.

Mainstream society could learn much from Mormons in that regard. They take preparation for emergencies and tough times seriously.

You are SO correct! Why prepare when one can just hop in the car and drive to the store and pick up whatever one wants - at any time of the day or night?! Don't even have to "do it from scratch" anymore. Or one can simply order it (whatever) on-line. No effort required - don't even have to leave the house.
