You may be able to use the boolits on spears or arrows. If you could hollow out the end of a nice stick, place a small pebble or BB in the bottom of the hole... Then you could insert the boolit in the end in such a way that when it makes impact with an object it would fire. Might be a little tough but I think it is a realistic option. .45 would make a beautiful spear tip! can do it.

If I have half a barrel, I have a barrel.

I'd saw it off in front of the gas tube (I assume you're talking a semi-auto, from your description).

If it doesn't function, I'd enlarge the gas bleed port a bit at a time.

Sights can be rigged up easily enough.

Most of this can be done with a hacksaw and file. It would be easy enough to crown if an electric drill could be had.

That would be nice, but assume you have no power. Maybe you have a hacksaw and can saw the barrel, but unless there's something in nature you can use to sand with, that's about all you can do is cut the barrel.

The problem then becomes, how to you strike the primer without blowing your hand off?

With my bug out bag my kit has 2 zippos, 36 flints, magic putty, duct tape, gorilla glue, leathermans tool and 2 AA flashlights and a bunch of other odds n ends with 4 spare loaded mags for the 1911's. That's just the top of my head gear and not counting the other stuff in the bag, I am sure we could make some sort of singleshot or small firework display. Of course once I pick up another .45 of some flavor there will be another gun in it as well. Might be a goodspot for one of them HIPoints that are so cheap. Or maybe a Glock 21 as the last last last backup gun.

In this case, I would try to "Appropriate" a similar weapon in the same caliber from my foes , and keep on fighting.

Just because your weapon is disabled does not mean you are helpless.

Boolits would make great sling shot ammo, killed my first rabbit with a home made sling shot.
