![]() ![]() | Something to keep in mind... The block still had moisture... Moisture transfers heat so I would be inclined to think the the plastic jug deformed from a low dose of steam. I higher moisture content will increase the chances of damage to the contents through heat transfer and conversion of moisture to steam. Therefore it would be logical to do 2 experiments. One using a high moisture content block with a plastic jug and paper and one using a low/0 moisture content block with identical contents. Keeping both blocks identical in shape and mass and identical contents with the only variable being moisture content would really show the difference.

| Professor ![]() | For the record. Drywall mud will not IMO protect anything substantially in a real hot fire, for very long. I don't believe it has any real heat resistant properties. I know that drywall (and joint compound) is considered by the NFPA to be combustable materials.

| Plinker | You could cast pretty much any shape including lids and what not with some saran-wrap and cooking spray. Add a wire loop handle and you have a $10 fire safe. I think if we could find a way to aerate the mud as it cured it would be a lot more protective. I don't know if a drill mounted mixer would do it or not, but it couldn't hurt.
