I still have one. I use it to buy gas and now lots of preps. It has a low low rate of just 24.7%! So I will never carry abalancee on it again. I suspect they will cut my limit soon. The last couple of months I have waited till the closing date and then bought right up to my limit. I get like 45+ days using their money and then I pay it off without any int. charges. I'm sure they hate me.

We paid off our high interest CC from my Credit Union and got a Platinum Card from the wife's CU with a much lower interest rate. It's hard for us not to have a CC for gas and Internet purchases It pays to shop around for % rates

Just curious as to how those of you with no CC's are able to rent cars, hotel rooms, buy airline tickets? I know, debit cards, but some hotels, rental agencies, etc. do not accept debits. I'd love to rid myself of them, but I travel a lot, and need them for just this purpose.

I bought a ticket from Northwest two weeks ago online directly from their site using my debit card.

A debit card isn't the same as an bank ATM/Check card.

When buying a car several years ago, and filling out all those papers, I told the salesman that I wished I could win the lottery so I could just pay cash. He got all tense and said "Oh no! That would ruin the economy!" I nearly laughed in his face. Poor soul seemed almost frightened by the prospect.

I wonder if he is still thinking that with all the credit problems now. :rolleyesedit:

Our Debit Card can be used either way as a Credit Card or a Debit Card. If you tell the merchant or machine credit, it goes thru without the transaction fee and still removes the funds from the account as a debit card would. I have never encountered problems using it to purchase or rent anything.

We have a debit/credit card and use it all the time. The money just comes right out of our primary account. I rarely ever carry cash any more.

That's what I do for money I intend to spend. My Dad, rest his soul, taught me a long time ago by example to always have cash on me. Take a $20, a $50, or whatever you think you might need in a true emergency, fold it up and stick it in a spot in your wallet you don't access often if ever, then stick the fact that it's there way, way back in the back of your mind. I've had the same bill squirrelled away for probably 12-15 years. I don't think he ever spent his, and he was carrying it when I was born.

Blessings,
B

I sometimes keep some money hidden away in a crevice in my wallet. Usually its for some type of firearm related purchase that must be stealth to avoid alerting the wife:rolleyesedit:
