No, I haven't been to the Sportsman's. Up until Dec. of last year, I was working 2 jobs and didn't have time for anything. (I got tired of killing myself just to make someone else rich) I am down to the one job (school bus driver) and will be laid off at the end of the month. I hope to find another job for the summer. (Hopefully - permanent)I haven't been successful in contacting anyone with Sportsman's. I would like to join so I can practice (and learn) but of course with no income to count on (except unemployment), that is not likely to happen right away. I am slowly getting my life back, tho. | |

![]() ![]() | we're half filipino. no cod pieces needed...hehe. seriously, most are not, will not be, prepared. even in rhino's simple example, instead of getting something, his visitors visited him. BECAUSE THEY KNEW HE WAS PREPARED. choose to prepare for yourself AND those you care about, or don't. but how will you deal with it if they come knocking on the maingate of you your redoubt? let them in? turn them away? this subject has to be part of our preparations. extras for those i care about is part of mine, but they will also have to earn my help. not really sure how, but earn it they will.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have been thinking about this. Perhaps even having a rack or something to hand people with a flashlight, batteries, one MRE, and a basic first aid kit. Since the MRE has matches, the whole thing could be done for under $10 I would think. Add an FEG and a box of 9x18 and you have the startings of a real kit... But how many of these kits you gonna need? How many before you run out? How many hear you have free kits and come running to find out you are out? I feel for people too, and I love nothing more than to break out emergency supplies and help someone (the opportunity to go and buy better supplies than the last time). But in a real SHTF situation there may be hard choices. Better to have good supplies now! Oh, of course, you could buy people kits and just hold them in "trust" for them to keep them from using the stuff up. That's not a bad way to think about it... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That's probably the best way to go in almost all cases. I'd go further to say that you shouldn't even tell them you're preparing on their behalf. If by some miracle they should awaken and make their own preparations, then you've lost nothing, as you can't have too much stuff if you have room for it. You could always trade it to someone who has something else you need more. The worst that could happen is that you'd have to leave it behind if you had to leave. |

![]() | The story of the Ant and the Grasshopper. Good story for all to take to heart and to learn from both. Those who have chose not to prepare will have to suffer the results of their choice. I hate that for them, but the rest of us can not save every one. |
