It has been considered. We even had an INGO intro class on emergency radio communications (PM Lars, he has it streaming online) and we have had meetings now and then. See the MSG thread.

You have a good idea, luckily so have others, and the wheel creation has begun. But there is much to do and workers are needed!

As for me and mine:

1. If Zombies: We will be on the roof seeing if the Appleseed training has prepped us well. Hopefully the bodies will not actually reach the roof.

2. If Flu: My wife will be gathering up my gear and looking to get a better husband as I will likely be dead already. My immune system is weak on flu.

3. If Blue Hats: We will already be among other INGO'ers in the State Park lands adding our chapters to the book Patriots.

4. If CC debt: Oh, wait that's not a bad dream, it's reality.

5. If Natural Disaster: Many of the Bloomington MSG members already know where the others live. We would be able to find each other without too much difficulty. Or just meet up at the unofficial HQ (Wafflehouse).

6. If Comet/Aliens/Nukes: Have not worked this one out yet, but will be sure to expend all resources. Not gonna be buried with unexpended ammo.

7. If total collapse of society: Gonna build the next Utopia here in Bloomington. Wife says no Polygamy.

Utopia + Polygamy = -1

I was thinking about the Ham frequency, or even CB or FRS. I would suggest that if most people had at least two of these forms of communication available, that would be great. I have all three available, but need to get the CB's in at least two vehicles, and the 2 meter ham into another vehicle. If a person where to have a scanner, they could at least monitor the FRS and Ham frequencies,, and CBs are cheap.

As to a common frequency, I'm not up enough to say what 2 meter ham frequency to use, but I was thinking that maybe we could st up a 2 meter simplex "preparedness net", or perhaps a relay system. I have a tower I've been wanting to set up, and with a good antenna, should be able to get a good distance. The point being, that we could test our communications without a repeater for a particular area (Bloomington), and perhaps relay to other Ham members in other areas, say Indy. If the relay stations had FRS and CB, people could make contact via that method, to the Ham operator, who could relay that to other Ham stations. I say 2 meter, because that is what I have avaliable to me as a no-code Tech, I suppose HF might be better for distance, but 2 meter seems more prevalent as a mobile radio...and as HT's (handi talkies)...just some ideas. The idea of the simplex is that we wouldn't be on someone's repeater, which might be down anyhow. I guess the work is setting a standard, then those who are interested getting the gear and setting up a framework of how it would work...

Hey T

My answer.....

As for me and mine:

1. If Zombies: We will be on the roof seeing if the Appleseed training has prepped us well. Hopefully the bodies will not actually reach the roof. We'll be on our front and back porch shooting down hill....I don't think my gate will keep them out.

2. If Flu: My wife will be gathering up my gear and looking to get a better husband as I will likely be dead already. My immune system is weak on flu. How much you want for that gear?

3. If Blue Hats: We will already be among other INGO'ers in the State Park lands adding our chapters to the book Patriots. That's too far to drive for me.

4. If CC debt: Oh, wait that's not a bad dream, it's reality. We all have that!

5. If Natural Disaster: Many of the Bloomington MSG members already know where the others live. We would be able to find each other without too much difficulty. Or just meet up at the unofficial HQ (Wafflehouse). Hope I have enough room!

6. If Comet/Aliens/Nukes: Have not worked this one out yet, but will be sure to expend all resources. Not gonna be buried with unexpended ammo. Understand your concern...the kids would help you expend your ammo.....

7. If total collapse of society: Gonna build the next Utopia here in Bloomington. Wife says no Polygamy. My wife feels the same!
