Survive or Resist ratio, your opinion.

I know this can be answered a billion different ways, but it is my largest personal debate in a suvival scenario.

I know the obvious main two roles your firearms would serve in a disaster SHTF scenario, but what ratio do you think you would have to use them to survive(food) or resist(stop zombies) I just want to know how others opinions compare to mine.

My answer:

I personally lean toward the RESIST side. I think 85% would be resistance and defense. I say this becuase what I think I would do in a shtf scenario, and also my geographic area and so on. I don't think my ratio would start changing to survive for about 6 months.

Agreed. You should bait your game where you live and look at crossbows or compound to hunt with. As you don't want to draw attention to yourself, you can reuse arrows (hopefully) and won't waste ammo. And there is other ways of getting food than guns, not a lot of choice to fight off the zombies.

I think that would depend largely on geographic area. If you're in a city, and the zombies think you have something they want then resist.

If you're in a little town or out in the stick, you may have to take care of the zombies when they realize that help isn't coming. If you're prepared and low key, I wouldn't expect that to be much of an issue.

Seems that most small game can be taken with traps, snares, bows and arrows, and the like. I would (and have) stocked up on .22 ammo and would consider that rifle to be primarily a hunting gun. Maybe a few deer slugs for a possible deer or two (lots of meat to stretch thru the next few months) for the 12 ga. However, 99% of my guns and ammo would be for "zombie alert".

I agree that timing would be an isssue. Months after the Main Event, society would be in shambles. Self defense would become the primary use for firearms.

I am wondering about others opinions on their own situation. We all have our own idea of what the situation could look like and how it would progress. At this moment I know almost exactly what I would do. I just want to know how my idea of this small part of the big picture would compare to others situations.
