We had to live withoug electric and water for a month in Florida after a hurricane. This was before we were preppers. We made it, the heat sucked....but we made it. Now...that we have things stock piled, We would be fine. It would be uncomfortable at first....But we would be fine.

Went through two hurricanes in one summer in So Florida; first went without power for four days and the second lasted six days. No thanks, you can keep it, all you do is exist waiting for the juice to come on. I much rather have the creature comforts.

Let's be real. Liberals/socialists are like herpes. You can't get rid of them, and they keep flaring up. They know that the American electorate is fickle...damn near bi-polar. If they piss off America, they'll be voted out of office. There will never be a time when we go "back to freedom, liberty and justice," because such a time never existed. It very much did exist. I'm not a Libertarian so I have no idea what this fantasy looks like. That said, Yes, there was a time when you were free and liberty and justice rang true. It was just hard work. Something no one these days cares for. You are kidding yourself if you think that this nation every resembled the libertarian fantasy that lots of people think it was. Back in the "good old days," how much liberty and justice was there for black people? I guess women didn't deserve the blessings of our nation, either, since they were considered too stupid to vote. Stupid things from our past that we overcame. But even though these groups were restricted, it was still a free Country where a man could start a business without fear of government doing this and that to you before you even open your doors. Many restrictions today were non-existent back then. Gun laws regarding carrying were more restrictive in the 1830s than they are today. Really? How so? examples? I wasn't aware most of America in the 1830's on restricted carry. Only recently has a large majority of the US allowed the carry of concealed weapons. So American's don't have a tradition of carrying firearms? As far as I know, American's had been carrying firearms with little if any restriction until the early 1900's Police are much more restricted today than they've ever been. Back in the 40's and 50's, if a cop kicked your a$$, it was generally understood that you probably deserved it. There was none of this "read me my rights" stuff. Before Tennessee v. Garner, a cop could shoot you in the back if you were a fleeing felon, even if you were unarmed. Today, people scream "JACKBOOT!" if they get pulled over for speeding, and often times a cop can only shrug his/her shoulders in the face of crime due to inept prosecutors who are only concerned with their convictions rates and re-election, rather than actually trying a case. Because people saw the corruption coming from state and local governments and finally started holding them to their oath's and the Constitution. You speak like all this has been a bad thing? If a cop kicked your arse in the 30's and 40's, it didn't make it right then, just as it doesn't now. Back then they didn't have such open lines of communication so corruption could breed like jackrabbits and no one would know outside the region. Or town in some cases. Now we have the internet and cable tv and can hold our elected officials to their word and try to stop corruption before it starts. Unfortunately, American's have accepted levels of corruption as the norm and feel they can't change it so they don't try. If only the American People would hold their elected officials and other officials accountable we could stop corruption altogether. It's just a shame everyone's too lazy to do it.

The country is not being destroyed. It changes, just like everything else in this world, sometimes for the worse, sometimes for the better. If we survived a civil war, 2 world wars, assassinations, civil rights struggles, civil unrest, economic recession and depression, terrorist attacks, and the inexplicable popularity of Michael Bolton....I'm quite sure the republic will survive a milquetoast latter-day Jimmy Carter, whose best talent seems to be bowing to other heads of state and talking smack about Fox News.

I'm sorry, but if you don't think this Country isn't being destroyed and isn't crumbling, you're not paying attention. Sure, we can survive an idiot in office. But can we survive the collective idiots in office who are driving this Country into the ground, weakening our defenses, and making it easier for Terrorists to enter the Country? I'm not so sure.

But seriously, if you don't think this Country is being destroyed, wake up and smell the bull before it's too late.

If given the chance, I would live like that in a nano second. Would the family? Yep, we like our creature comforts, but we do like to rough it too. A country boy WILL survive.

The reason I started this thread was to find out how many folks were wanting to survive and how many were only willing to spend a week in a cabin. As I expected, most aren't really willing to SURVIVE. Someone like me would have a better mindset as I'm two generations closer to that livestyle than you. The bad thing is that I don't have the strength and stamina I had 15 years ago.

If the huge disruption happens there won't be any property taxes. No grocery stores, gas stations, utility bills TV etc. That's when you find out who wants to survive and actually build a future and who will waste away.

Like I remember from a Eastwood movie, "A mans got to know his limitations".
