![]() ![]() ![]() | Combat pistol accuracy poll What do you consider good slow fire accuracy with a combat type pistol at 7 yards? I know what I consider acceptable but would like some other opinions. Give me a group size for a ten shot group.

![]() | I would be pleased with a gun that I could quickly and easily hit the bottom of a pop can. My guess is that any reliable pistol with decent ergonomics should be able to do the job.

![]() | Since the original post asked for examples of groups, I looked at some old targets. No problems keeping "slower" fire groups under 1.5 - 2 inches at short range. Don't do a lot of slow fire shooting with my carry guns since I consider any target worth shooting, is worth shooting twice.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | At 7? Only 7? Needs to have at least 1-2" unsupported slow fire groups. This is SLOW fire however and highly variable on the shooter, their expectations, ammo type (high vel, or target slow loads), etc.... At speed, at least 3-4" or, at minimum, hitting what you are aiming at (aim at throat/heart/center of face/pelvis on a target, you are hitting it or CLOSE enough to disrupt the organ). Remember, the worst results you get in practice will be the best results in a real fight. Train train train. I see lots of folks come out to the range that try shooting "defensive style" but have not learned proper technique of basic fundamentals. They cloud poor shooting technique with the image of "defensive shooting". Dont fall into this. Fundamentals first, FUN stuff later . Also, spraying down a target is probably poor training. At 7, aim. Closer, point shooting. At that close of a distance, combat vs. target pistols (in regards to the average shooter) means little. A gun is a gun IMHO at that distance (at least with a gun owner as opposed to a true shooter). Its when you start getting 15-25 yards, thats when things get good or bad, depending on the shot with slow fire. I am not a tactical or defensive instructor, there are many here on the board, they should be along to say what they think is best! This is just my opinion. What are your groups? With what weapon and load?

![]() ![]() ![]() | A training school of thought I have experienced is you should be able to hit in an upper chest ring at 7 to 20 yards, but just more quickly at 7 and more slowly at 20. Finding the right combination of hardware and speed for you is the key to accuracy. That said, if you can get 3 upper chest or top half head shots off at 7 yards quickly, you're golden. With good control and average gear, a sub 3" groups at 7 yards should be easy with slow fire.
