![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Law Enforcement "Qualification" Shooting? Just wondering out loud (online, of course) LEOs are supposed to qualify on a fairly regular schedule with their firearms, right? What do these qualifying shoots look like? I'm assuming they're not all exactly the same, but I'm guessing that they're fairly similar. I'm looking through search results and finding a lot of 3-5-7-10-15-20-25 yard shooting on timed increments, but nothing specific as to how the shooting is done and how things are scored. Not finding much at all about shotguns or rifles.. Just looking to learn - anybody have any experience? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | When I go qualify with my former dept. I shoot the ILEA course. 3 yard line - 6 rounds right hand, 6 rounds left hand 7 yard line - 12 rounds strong hand 15 yard line - 6 rounds strong hand standing, 6 rounds strong hand kneeling 25 yard line - 6 rounds right hand, 6 rounds left hand Need a score of 196 out of 240, if I remember right. Everything is timed but I don't remember what the times are.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks guys! I was doing some research and found in Indiana Law Enforcement Academy 48-Round Course writeup. Of course, I'm not sure what some of the terminology means.. 3 yard line, 6 rounds per hand, groups of two. Not too bad. 7 yard line, 12 rounds, double-handed, below eye level. (What's "Below Eye Level" mean?) 15 yard line - 12 rounds, 6 "Standing Point Shoulder" (?) and 6 Kneeling 25 yard line - 12 rounds, from barracade, 6 left and 6 right (What do they consider a barracade?) How is scoring done? I'm assuming they use ringed targets, dividing the scores in half? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The Supreme Court has ruled that qualification is NOT training. Training has to be recent, relevant, and realistic. Qualifications are seldom even recent. I used to call them "Making sure your gun worked day"
