What was that movie where the guy makes his own body armor by taping phone books to his body. I am thinking he might have been in jail... it was a comedy. Shoot i wish i could remember, it was pretty hilarious. But I think he was more worried about a stabbing.

The engine block can provide some cover. Also, a vehicle may not provide cover, but if you duck behind one, you might be able to move around freely w/o the shooter seeing you, so it would be providing concealment. The picture is a guy shooting a rifle, so yea, just using the sides of a vehicle won't provide cover. The engine block would likely provide some cover, hence why he is not shooting through that are of the car, but rather the trunk. Handgun rounds may or may not pass through both sides of a car, depends on a lot of factors.

The guy who does theboxotruth.com covered this nicely with "the car o truth " .

He used various rifles and pistols , it was very informative and funny .

Did I tell you about the guys I used to hunt with from Chicago? They put the deer in the trunk before they shot it.

Wheels and engine are the only real cover a vehicle can provide. The structure in a door can provide some, but there are too many gaps in it to depend on. Unless, of course, your alternative is nothing at all!
