![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | To be an effective combat shooter you need to be a good basics shooter. I often thought of point shooters as those than couldnt use sights or proper trigger presses. and often shot low I gather if you have time to aim and hit the throat /neck then you have time to shoot the Brain box...We all all about effective rounds on the threats. so what is an effective shot |

![]() ![]() | Re: Accurate Terminology During my short time here, I've seen many threads derailed and descend into unnecessary acrimonious debate because someone chose to parse words or had a problem with the terminology used by either the OP, or a pasted article, or another poster. It is left to the student, reader, or observer to discern the meaning and take away from it what he will. Most folks here are aware of the marketing hype and overused terms, such as "tactical" and "mil-spec". "Combat mindset" became "fighting mindset" became "warrior mindset", etc. At some point, though, one runs out of synonyms to say the same thing. We all have our pet peeves, or things we are tired of reading or hearing. Things such as hearing one shooter say to another on the range, "How's it shoot? ", when the accurate and relevant question would be, "How're you shooting?" Quote:

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | basically all he said was shoot center mass, and shoot until the threat stops..... right?..... only he seems to need to be verbose about it.... maybe it's just me...... ![]()

I thought it was a decent article in some respects, but I think his apparent denigration of shooting for groups in practice is mistaken. When you get down to it, his article points out various target areas on the body, and if you don't practice hitting what you aim at, you won't get the "combat accurate" hits he writes about. I like the 9" paper plates. It's about the right size to cover any of what I consider the three major target areas, upper chest, abdomen, and pelvic girdle. If, while practicing at speed or in a fight, you can target a particular area and put repeated hits into it, you should do well. However, you may not always be presented a large area. As he points out, the only available target could be a foot... and you aren't going to hit that if you haven't practiced good ole target shooting. Shooting for groups, IOW. You need to practice several different methods of shooting to be effective. Contact range shooting, point shooting, aimed fast shooting, deliberate target shooting. While head shots can be effect, and a throat shot can be undeniably effective, they are not realistic targets unless one is able to take a deliberate, aimed, shot. They are simply too small and mobile, and the head in particular is a hardened target.

These two facts lead to articles with cutesy feel good terms like "combat accuracy", "knock down power", and "synergy". In the days of old when the country was more agricultural in nature they had an excellant term for it.
