![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | MDFI Handgun 1 Oct3 09 thoughts/pics Thoughts from class Good size class and quite possibly the highest average of new/novice shooters of any one class so far. We are noticing a ton of extremely basic information that should be covered in the CPL class which is either not being covered, or not being absorbed by the student. Even if it is part of the class, if the student isn't leaving with having learned those skills, it hasn't been taught. Supertuck holsters suck. Those who ran them will tell you why. Anybody who says this is a good system has CLEARLY not spent any time actually using it. After less than 10 draw strokes we were modifying the ST's that were on the line. Their belt clips are ineffective and retention on the gun is not nearly as good as the Comp-Tac's CTAC and Tucker's "The Answer" holster. Both are of similar design, both are much better in real life. - Both XD's in class had issues. Surprise surprise. - A Browning High Power had issues as well, which I learned to be a bone dry gun at the end of class. Lube your guns people. If the oil you use doesn't stay in place and work, use grease. I don't know if lube would have fixed this particular gun, but it sure wouldn't have hurt. - A Glock developed issues with the Korean KCI mags very quickly. As I've said before, these mags are junk and will cost you more in the long run. Use factory mags and be done with it. - Glocks and M&P's ran fine, who woulda thunk it? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Long running joke about XD's. We see them break time after time after time. Now we just do stuff like that to piss off the XD fanboys back home reading the errornet. ![]() Glock, M&P, Sig, HK and Beretta keep proving themselves as the most reliable guns for this type of shooting. 1911's will always be hit and miss because of the broad range of quality available for that market and XD's are easily the least reliable of the popular defensive pistols out there. |

So you actually see XDs fail with some regularity? What seem to be the most common malfs?

They don't feed or eject worth squat. Tight chambers, magazines very picky with dirt in them, double feeds like it's their job. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What?! That's crazy! Not one here or there, but at least one in EVERY class?Wait. . . you mean those "fully-supported, non-exploding" chambers? I guess they're not all they're cracked up to be? ![]() It's no secret I'm a Glock guy. Until now, the only thing that has really kept me from XDs has been the grip safety ( ). I've been trying to get my hands on an M&P so I can compare (I've shot an XD before) them all.Perhaps the "Big 3" polymer defensive pistols should be the "Big 2"? ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It is definitely the big 2 in my opinion. M&P's are great guns, but you will notice little difference over the Glock. For lefty's the M&P is a great choice and for guy with big hands who get railroaded by the Glock slide the M&P beavertail works great. Other than that, they are pretty much identical. I prefer the Glock but would have absolutely no issue shooting an M&P. And yes, the "match" chamber BS is just that....BS. Chamber support doesn't matter when your gun doesn't feed. My Glocks must not read the internet; 12k rounds of lead reloaded ammo down the factory barrels this year and they always do what I ask of them. Crazy how that works. |
