MCS Drop Step Control Drill (Live Fire)

Student walks down range with another student simulating loved one (protectee) on his reaction side. A visual cue is introduced, in this case a tennis ball. Student utilizes his natural reaction side arm to gain control of his protectee while drawing his pistol one handed and engages target. Primary goal is to take control of and move the protectee while placing yourself between the protectee the threat while creating distance to the direction offered in the environment. The second goal is to put effective rounds on the target.

Also, this is something that doesn't really need "taught"... Fine-tuned and honed, for sure.

But even without training, I did almost this exact same thing when I thought I was about to get shredded by a dalmation.

I used my left "chicken wing" and arm to back my fiance' up to put space between us and the dog. Very thankful I didn't have to shoot, though.

I think that we could all use more practice shooting with one hand, too. Chances are that if we do ever have to use our firearm/s, that we'll only have one hand in order to do it.

Uhhh...

Instead of chicken-winging your "significant other" out of the way why not just side step in front of them.

I think that physically controlling the other person allows you to know where they are, make sure that you can safely gain space between you and the attacker, and ensure a clear target area between you and the attacker. If you just side stepped in front you could not gain space (move backwards) without tripping over each other and if that person panicked you could lose track of them rapidly. JMHO

The problem I see with this is you are not actually protecting "significant other". By just shoving them out of the way and controlling them with your off hand you are not providing them any type of cover or concealment. So if this is your intended purpose then why even try to control them. I am thinking it is more important that you should step in between them and the threat if the safety of the "significant other" is so all important.

Or you could if faced with single threat create distance in they oposite direction drawing attention to you allowing them escape and or evade.

Generally they are Polite, Professional, and Prepared to kill everything.
