That is the best plan!

However, the training is based on the idea that this "protectee" is a clueless individual, your child, your significant other, best bud, etc. You are placing yourself between them and the threat. At the same time, you are drawing and putting rounds into the attacker.

In a perfect world, you get off the draw and put numerous rounds into the BG. In the real world, you hope to do that while being injured as minimally as possible You know where your "loved one" is and are sheilding them. As opposed to them running about, possibly catching errant BG rounds or even your own.

Let alone the fact that there could be a second or alternative BG. If you live through the first attack, but injured and immobile, you still have ahold of the "loved one" and can defend.
