alternate double-feed clearance method

Saw this posted/discussed on another forum. Anyone here experimented with it?

not much "new" ; ditch bad mag, clear gun , reload new mag..
if you are practiced with tach reloads, you would probably just retain mag for later use..

The "new" part is hitting the mag catch and slamming the gun-hand wrist down on the support-side arm (or other suitable body part or object) to get the mag out.

This was presented as a faster, more efficient alternative to the Lock-Rip-Work process that many instructors teach for clearing double-feeds. I don't know whether it is or isn't, as I have not attempted it myself.

We used something similar in a wounded shooter course a while back using the knee instead of the palm of the hand. Works pretty effectively for one hand manipulations. However, it did not work on every gun platform out there.

At best, I'd say why? Why wouldn't I just rip, rack and reload?

It looks like a guy that took a specific technique out of it's intended context, and is trying to make it a one size fits all.

Interesting, might have to give it a try to see how much force is required to "inertia" strip the mag out.

Interesting. I think a variable in this method is if you have a loaded mag or not? What if the last two are 'involved' in the double feed and the mag is to light/stuck to drop?

Would you then be performing the 'old' method of lock slide, remove mag, rack slide reload?

I may be off, just a thought though. To me, the variable to this is the mag HAS to come out or you've just wasted more time.

In my experience with double feeds the mag doesn't come out easily and stripping it forcefully is the only reliable way to get it out.

As far as retaining a mag that has just malfunctioned, that's just not a wise move.

imo, in the time (and similar motion) it takes to bring the support arm away from the gun to smack your wrist, you could be ripping the mag out .... of course I never lock the slide, just rip that f'er out.

I didn't like it. Wouldn't trust it. It won't take much longer to rip the mag, rack a couple times, reload, and slingshot the slide.

I also don't like that he had the ejection port up when he was trying to clear the jam. Ejection port should be down, allowing gravity to give the gun a helping hand.

Much like the "bash" reload on the AK. If you get it right the first time, it's super-friggin-fast. If you **** it up, it's slower than the next fastest option, which is also more positive/reliable.

These were my thoughts, as well.
