I have been looking at FL and UT permits too, and found that there appears to only be one, maybe two states difference in the two.
The IN + FL combo includes WV, but not WA or MN
The IN + UT combo includes WA and MN, but not WV
Otherwise it looks like rest of the states just one or the other adds to your IN license, is the same, and of course the IN + FL + UT, gives you all three, WV, WA, MN.

To me the key is the renewal cost, 100+ for FL , vers 10 for UT

DISCLAMER: Even though I used the information from more than one source, and was very carefull in my research, it is probably wrong, and should not be used for any reason other than to convince yourself that to be on the safe side, you just need to go ahead and get every non resident permit and/or license you can. :rolleyesedit:

Be careful when comparing the states covered w/ each of the permits. I use handgunlaw.us, personally & recommend it highly. The main thing to be aware of is, which states recognize a "non-resident" permit. The last time I checked, to carry in the following states on an out of state license/permit, you must be a resident of the state that issued the license/permit that you are carrying on in that state; NH, SC, WV, MI, FL, KS & CO. Of those, NH, MI, FL & CO recognize the IN LTC. SC, WV & KS do not. So, even if one of them did recognize a license/permit issued from FL, or wherever, as an IN resident we still cannot carry there on the FL license.
I know it gets complicated, but they are laws put together by a bunch of politicians (most of whom are lawyers!).

I try to cover this in the class, too. Sometimes it is easier to absorb when you can hear it & see it together.

I used that site as one of my sources, and agree that recognition of a "non-resident" permit or license can be confusing, and the reason for my disclamer, but it still looks like the Utah is a better bang for your buck. Along with the tranining satisfying the requirements for the FL permit.

Exactly. As it stands now, there is no way anyone from IN can carry in WV, SC, or KS, since they require a resident LTC/CCW/whatever and do not recognize ours.

I just got a letter back from Dan and he suggested 7/19/08 for a class date. I didn't confirm that with him as yet, but told him I'd bring it back here and let everyone know. I also asked him again about where to do it, i.e. if he has a location that works for him better. If not, Evan, I'll let you know and see what we can do.

Thanks, everyone, for your interest!

Blessings,
B

To my knowledge, it's a one-time class, with a $20 renewal every 5 years. If I find something official that contradicts that, I'll correct it. Correction: $10 renewal, every five years. One time class.

Do what works best for you. Me, I'd carry a copy of the relevant law with me and use the extra cash for either a new gun or more ammo. YMMV.

That would be very cool, Evan. We have perhaps ten now, depending on details. I'll drop Dan an email and see what he is available to do.

Blessings,
B
Know of any sites that actually link to states sites that have the law on the official states websites? That one website just says 'oh yeah you can use it there'

I would be interested in the UT carry class, 19 Jul also works for me. Any idea on the cost per person for the class itself?
